The main characteristics of work relationships in Spain are as follows:

Tendency towards flexibility in work relationships, which allows companies to adapt to changing economic and technological situations.

Promotion of collective negotiation between social agents for the purposes of adaptation and flexibility, and as an alternative to state intervention.

Promotion of policies for preventing work risks. General company management systems must have an integrated policy on work risk prevention. This was made mandatory on 14th December 2003.

A belief in stable or permanent contracts, even though the temporary contract structure still remains.

Concession of subsidies in the Valencia Region, for the creation of new jobs, therefore encouraging the creation of new companies.

Range of possibilities for part-time work contracts.

Stimuli for the professional insertion of groups facing difficulties when seeking employment.

Possibilities of continual training for employees and occupational training for the unemployed.

More efficient processes for terminating work contracts.

Foreign or non-EU workers need administrative authorisation or work permits as a prerequisite to start working.

Obligatory contribution to the social security system on behalf of both the company and the employee.
