The Valencia region is located on the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula (northern latitude of 40º 47' and longitude of 4º 12'- 2º 09'). To the north it borders Catalonia, to the west Aragon and Castile-La Mancha, to the south Murcia and to the east the Mediterranean Sea.
It forms part of the so-called "Mediterranean Arc". The areas on the Arc have similar characteristics and their GDP growth rates are higher than the national average.
It has a surface area of 23,255 km2, representing 4.6% of Spanish territory and 0.6% of the European Union.
Due to its elongated shape, with a north- south orientation, the area has 451 km of coastline on the Mediterranean Sea.
